8 week old rejected lamb

8 week old rejected lamb

by Emily
(Devon)

We have just had a lamb who's mother refused to let it suck. It is a twin and the mother lets his sister suckle fine.

I have been asked to bottle feed it. It is fairly weak at the moment as I don't think the mother has let it feed for such for a while.

I was wondering how often i should give it milk. Before being rejected it did eat the hay, grass and drink water as well.

Your lamb will need a milk replacement for at least another 5-6 weeks.

At 8 weeks you should be feeding your lamb 500 ml of milk, twice a day. By 13 weeks your lamb should be completely off milk.

All the best, and let us know how your orphan lamb gets on.
