This county is a country-lover's paradise and an area that is ideal for rambling, hiking and riding for that special farm holiday. For those of you who love the great outdoors the Shropshire Hills, an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is here for you to explore. Rural beauty beckons with vast open spaces, patchwork fields and ancient hedgerows.
With over 32 castles and stately homes in the area it is ideal place to absorb architecture and history. If you are only going to limit yourself to a couple of castles during your stay, then here are two of the best. Stokesay Castle is one that shouldn't be missed. It is a very romantic 13th Century fortified manor house. The other is the famous and dramatic medieval Ludlow Castle, which hosts an annual summer arts festival. Ludlow itself is a fascinating town and has 500 listed buildings, mainly Georgian and half-timbered. However, there is far more to this county than castles.
This is a county has many ancient towns and picturesque villages. Shrewsbury, once home to Charles Darwin, is one of England's finest medieval market towns. Other attractions in the area include the Severn Valley Railway, the RAF Museum at Cosford and the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
Whatever I write about Shropshire here will never do the county justice. There is just so much to see and do here, you will be amazed. You could see badgers and foxes, go hot air ballooning or parachuting, it is all here, waiting for you to explore on your next farm holiday.
