Hatching Problems and Pekin Ducklings

Hatching Problems and Pekin Ducklings

by Sherrie

This is my first time with Pekin Ducks I have 2 female 1 male.

1 female has been sitting on her eggs and been so faithful, and doesnt leave the nest much. I see the other female in the morning with her on the nest together.

Well one egg has hatched I found the baby dead this morning. So I am trying to find out if it was natural or did the other ducks get to it? Any help would be nice.

I have lots of questions. Like will the mother raise these babies if anymore hatch? At what point do I intervene? I must have to
put some babyfood out at some point....I am currently looking at website for info. but just plain old answers would be nice.

I currently have 2 baby Indian runners in a cage, but my male pekin duck seems to want to attack them. I have heard that males do kill the ducklings, but that females that arn't broody do seem to kill them to.
