Sunset on the Lake

Sunset on the Lake

Ontario farms can be found throughout this region of central Canada. The farms and ranches that offer hospitality cover a broad spectrum and you will find cottages, log cabins, farmhouses and bed and breakfast type accommodation.

The province of Ontario is the second largest in Canada, after Quebec, which lies directly to the east. To the south is the United States, to the west is the province of Manitoba, and the northern part of the province ends at Hudson's Bay.

This is an area of great beauty and one that will constantly surprise you at what it has to offer. With lush canopied forests, thousands of freshwater lakes and rivers and rolling countryside, Ontario is home to an outstanding array of birds and wildlife. It contains four of the five 'Great Lakes' of North America.

In summer, these lakes and rivers are a holiday haven for city-dwellers; in the winter, they provide ideal conditions for snow-mobilers and for ice-fishing. In summer they lure the fisherman, the sailing fanatics, the water-skiing enthusiasts and the picnickers.

Because of its diversity it is a playground paradise for those who love the great outdoors. Whether you like cycling, hiking, boating, skiing, fishing or just doing some quiet wine tasting in outlying vineyards, you can find it all here.

There is also Niagara Falls for those who are looking for some drama; partly lodged in Ontario (and partly in New York State, USA), the falls provides spectacular natural phenomena that is worth the trip.

Throughout Ontario are six national parks and 260 provincial parks for you to visit. The six parks are notably the Bruce Peninsula National Park, Point Pelee National Park, Pukaskwa National Park for moose, bear and caribou, St. Lawrence Islands National Park, Ontario's smallest national park, Georgian Bay Islands National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park, which is Ontario's oldest national park.

Ontario's weather, although not ideal, is comfortably hot in the summer, particularly in the south of the province. In winter, the weather is crisp and bracing, particularly in the north.
