Gauteng Farm Holidays: Guest Farms, Game Farms and Eco Tours

Gauteng Farm Holidays for country accommodation. Gauteng, prior to 1994, was known as the Transvaal. The area is perfect for taking a relaxing holiday and at the same time being able to visit many wild animals in Safari parks or game reserves. Stay on a guest farm, a game farm or try something different - take an eco-tour and see some of this beautiful country.

Gauteng is the province to the big and bustling Johannesburg known for its many gold and diamond mines. Visit Gold Reef, a reconstructed historic gold mine and village where you can even take a trip underground. Here you can experience what it is like for thousands of miners everyday who work within the bowels of the earth.

If you are looking for wildlife on your doorstep visit the Lion and Rhino Park, situated just outside of Johannesburg. Or, if you want to try your hand at some dam fishing during your farm holiday, head out to Hartbeespoort Dam, enjoy a scenic trip and visit the De Wildt Cheetah Research Station which you will find on the way.

Within an hour or so, north-west of Johannesburg and still in Gauteng you will find the beautiful Magaliesberg mountains. Here you will find wonderful scenery, many spectacular waterfalls, and strange rock formations. It is also an area of diverse vegetation that attracts more than 300 different bird species that draw bird watchers from all over the world. Look out for the beautiful paradise flycatcher during the month of October. During most times of the year during your Gauteng farm holidays you can also see, among others, Cape vultures, jackal buzzards and black eagles.

Finally, don't forget to visit Sterkfontein caves during your Gauteng farm holiday. It is a fun time for both kids and adults alike and is well worth a visit. Look out for "Mrs. Ples" she is an old lady, well around 2.8 and 2.6 million years old and a discovery for which Sterkfontein is now famous. The Cradle of Humankind is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

These are just some of the places to visit, and it is by no means a complete list. Visit Gauteng for yourself, book into one of our Gauteng Guest Farms, Gauteng Game Farms or visit our page on Gauteng Eco-Tourism for a trip of a life time and a farm holiday you are not likely to forget!

If you have a farm in Gauteng that you would like to showcase visit our Farm Forum. You can upload a picture and brag a little. We don't mind!
