brown soap

brown soap

When I was 17 I went to my girlfriend's house one day and her mother was making what she called brown soap.

It had a smell of turpentine or kerosene. I also noticed one day that my girl friend was cleaning the shower and then she had to wipe it down with kerosene and then buffing it to a high gloss.

My question is, is this kerosene recipe that you have on your website that brown soap?

I really don't know it as brown soap, and I am not sure that what you are referring to as "brown soap" is one and the same on the site.

My only suggestion is to make a batch and see if it works and smells the same as you remember it to be.

Thank you Katherine, I will have to make it and see. I think it was a soap that they used on hardwood floors, baseboards and the like. I guess some may have used it like Murphy's oil soap.
