Homemade Sauerkraut Recipe

Homemade Sauerkraut Recipe

Hi, I am looking for a basic homemade sauerkraut recipe.

***************************************************
Try this easy sauerkraut recipe. The only problem is that you have to be patient, as it won't be ready for at least 8 weeks.

Sauerkraut Ingredients

1 large head of cabbage
1 teaspoon salt, per quart of sauerkraut
2 teaspoons white sugar, per quart of sauerkraut
cold water
quart jars

Method:

Shred the cabbage finely and fill each quart jar to half an inch to the top of the jar.

Add 1 teaspoon salt and 2 teaspoons white sugar on top of the cabbage to each quart jar.

Fill each of the jars to within a half inch of the top of each jar with cold water so that the cabbage is completely covered.

Put the lids on the jars and turn them tight. Leave the jars in a cool, dark place for at least 8 weeks before using.

Regards
